“Hey, when
we get home tonight we are going to sit down and talk. Write down a list of the
pros and cons of everything, okay?” Tom smiled softly.
“The pros
and cons of what exactly?”
“Of us being
together...of us not being together...” Tom said.
“Oh okay.
Well that’s fine” I shrugged, pretending not to care when in reality I was
realising that I loved him more than just friends. But did I want to risk
things?
Half an hour
later, of us both singing along to songs on the radio and general chit-chat,
Tom pulled into his parents drive. I looked at the house two doors down and
took a deep breath. “Are you alright?” Tom asked, noticing that I was staring
out of the window at my old house.
“Yeah it’s
just been a while” I said, turning to face him.
“You’ve been
back since though, haven’t you?” He asked.
“Yeah but it
has still been a long time” I smiled softly.
“Come on
sweetie” Tom smiled before he got out of the car. I got out and followed him
straight up the path to his parent’s front door. Tom knocked before he looks
down at me and smiled again. “If you need a bit of space just go upstairs to
what was my room and just chill for a bit, okay Tee?” He said. “Thank you” I
smiled just as his mum opened the front door.
“Tom, you do
remember that we have a new door and so you don’t have to knock? Just come
straight in” Debbie laughed before she shut the door. Tom looked at me and
laughed before he opened the door himself. “Mum, that was strange” Tom laughed.
“It’s your
childhood home though Tom, there really is no need to knock” Debbie called out
from the living room. Tom shook his head, laughing, before leading me through
to the living room where the whole family were.
An hour
later and Tom, Carrie and I were sat chatting in the garden whilst Debbie and
Tom’s dad Bob were in the kitchen cooking dinner. “Hey Tee, are you alright?
You’re very quiet” Carrie asked. I placed my hand above my eyes to shade the
sun from them and so I could see Carrie who was sat opposite me. “I’m fine
Carrie, it’s just a bit weird being here...” I said.
“You’ve been
back many times since though, haven’t you?” Carrie asked.
“Carrie,
maybe Tee doesn’t want to talk about this right now” Tom turned to Carrie and
hissed.
“No it’s
fine. I’ve been back twice since it happened but it doesn’t stop things feeling
weird” I smiled softly. “I’m sorry” Carrie whispered. It was only now that I
realised that tears were leaking from my eyes. I turned to Tom who was watching
me, concerned. I then burst out into full sobbing. Tom moved over and wrapped
his arms around me, pulling me close to sob into his chest. “Carrie, can you go
get some tissues and a glass of water for Treasure please?” I heard Tom asked.
